When someone searches “plumber near me” or “dentist in [your city]”, Google shows a map with three businesses. Those three get the calls. Here is the exact 90-day plan I use to get small businesses into that map pack.
Days 1–14: Fix Your Google Business Profile
- Claim and verify your profile at business.google.com.
- Choose the most specific category possible (“Emergency plumber”, not “Contractor”).
- Add real photos — your team, your work, your premises. Profiles with 20+ photos get dramatically more calls.
- Fill every field: hours, services, service areas, booking links.
Days 15–45: Reviews Are Your Ranking Fuel
Ask every happy customer for a Google review — and ask them to mention the service (“built our NGO website”, “fixed our hot water system”). Review text is a ranking signal. Reply to every review, good or bad; Google notices active profiles.
Days 30–60: Make Your Website Agree With Google
- Your business name, address and phone (NAP) must be identical on your website, profile and directories.
- Create a service page for each main service with the city name in the heading and title tag.
- Add LocalBusiness schema markup so Google understands who and where you are.
- Embed a Google Map on your contact page.
Days 60–90: Citations and Local Content
List your business consistently in the directories that matter for your country (Yelp/BBB in the USA, Yellow Pages in Canada/Australia, Trustpilot in the UK). Then publish one locally-relevant article per month — it compounds.
What Results Look Like
Done consistently, most businesses see map-pack appearances for their core searches within 60–90 days, and a steady climb after. If you’d rather have it done for you, Local SEO Optimization is one of my core services — get a free visibility check here.
