I build stores on both platforms, so I have no horse in this race. Here is the honest comparison I give every e-commerce client — and the one-sentence rule that makes the decision easy.
The One-Sentence Rule
If selling products is your whole business, choose Shopify. If your store is part of a bigger content-driven website, choose WooCommerce.
Costs Compared
- Shopify: from $29/month + transaction fees. Hosting, security and updates are handled for you.
- WooCommerce: free plugin, but you pay for hosting ($5–30/month), and you (or your developer) handle updates and security.
Over three years the totals are surprisingly similar — the real difference is who does the maintenance.
Ease of Day-to-Day Use
Shopify wins for busy owners: adding products, changing prices and processing orders is genuinely simple. WooCommerce is more flexible but assumes someone technical is nearby.
SEO and Content Marketing
WooCommerce (on WordPress) is stronger for content: blogs, landing pages and local SEO are native. Shopify’s blogging is workable but limited. If your growth plan is search traffic, that matters — see my guide on local SEO for small business.
Which One Do I Recommend for Bangladesh Stores?
For stores selling inside Bangladesh with bKash/Nagad/SSLCommerz payments, WooCommerce integrates more smoothly. For stores selling internationally, Shopify’s payment and shipping ecosystem is hard to beat.
Still Unsure?
Send me your product type, target market and budget through my contact form — I’ll recommend the right platform in one reply, even if you build it with someone else. And if you want it done for you, my Premium plan covers a complete store on either platform.
